The iconoclastic legend made her film debut in A Bill of Divorcement (1933) and won her first of a record four Oscars with her third picture, Morning Glory. Her subsequent wins were for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?, The Lion in Winter and On Golden Pond. Hepburn was nominated a total of 12 times, another record unbroken until 2003 (by Meryl Streep).
Her many successes include The African Queen and three films with Cary Grant (Holiday, Bringing Up Baby, Philadelphia Story). Woman of the Year (1942) teamed her for the first of nine times with Spencer Tracy, with whom she had a 27-year off-screen relationship. Hepburn's final film was 1994's Love Affair; she died on June 29, 2003, at age 96.
