Born July 23, 1961, in Midland, Texas, but raised in Lebanon, Ohio, Woody Harrelson headed to New York after graduating from Indiana's Hanover College. While an understudy in the stage play "Biloxi Blues," he was cast as a dim-witted bartender on television's "Cheers," a role that eventually earned him an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. After an inauspicious film debut in Wildcats (1986) and a small role in Doc Hollywood, Harrelson scored a slam-dunk in the basketball comedy White Men Can't Jump. High-profile films such as Indecent Proposal and the controversial Natural Born Killers followed. He then jolted fans and critics with Oscar-nominated intensity in the title role of The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996).
Outspoken and active in a variety of mediums, Harrelson has also been seen in Wag the Dog, Kingpin, Play It to the Bone, The Thin Red Line and After the Sunset.
