A Grammy-winning pioneer of the "outlaw country" movement and best known for his trademark beard and braided pigtails, Willie Nelson was born April 30, 1933, in Abbott, Texas, and established himself as a respected singer-songwriter before veering into the world of acting.He landed his first film role in The Electric Horseman (1979) and his first lead the following year in Honeysuckle Rose (1980), an autobiographic film whose soundtrack includes "On the Road Again," one of Nelson's most famous songs.
The 1990s found him stepping away from traditional Western storylines with comedic cameos in Wag the Dog (1997) and Half Baked (1998) before starring in the new millennium as the overalled Uncle Jesse in The Dukes of Hazzard (2005) and the subsequent direct-to-video prequel, The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning (2007).
