Among pop culture's most famous faces, William Shatner was born March 22, 1931, in Montreal. Though he's best known for portraying USS Enterprise Capt. Kirk, Shatner's work spans theatrical films, directing and producing.Upon moving to New York City in 1956, he worked on Broadway and in television, landing his first important movie role in 1961's Judgment at Nuremberg. In 1966, Shatner accepted the lead in the TV series "Star Trek," which would steer much of his later career, spawning numerous film sequels.
Shatner spoofed himself in the 1982 comedy Airplane II and returned to series television the same year with "T.J. Hooker." Thereafter, he alternated movie and TV work, picking up an Emmy in 2004 for his recurring role on "The Practice" and an Emmy in 2005 for his supporting role in "Boston Legal."
