Tony Shalhoub was born October 9, 1953, in Green Bay, Wis., of Lebanese heritage. He attended the University of Southern Maine in Portland and began making network TV appearances in 1986 on such shows as "The Equalizer" and "Spencer for Hire."In 1990, Shalhoub made his film debut in Longtime Companion, followed by Quick Change, Barton Fink, Honeymoon in Vegas, Big Night and a memorable bit as an alien pawnshop owner in Men in Black (and its sequel). He was also a regular on the TV sitcom "Wings" (1991-97) but would find his biggest TV success in the title role of "Monk," starting in 2002.
As hypochondriac detective Adrian Monk, Shalhoub would win a number of acting awards, including the Emmy, the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild Award. Galaxy Quest, The Man Who Wasn't There, Thir13en Ghosts and all three Spy Kids movies are more big-screen Shalhoub credits.
