Thomas Haden Church was born June 7, 1961, in El Paso, Texas. In his early years, he toiled as a disc jockey, a voice-over talent and a doorman at the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas. Bits in a couple of small films took Church to Hollywood, where he landed the role of Billy Clanton in Tombstone. He became a familiar TV face as a regular in the sitcoms "Wings" and "Ned and Stacey" and made occasional films. Church was about to retire from acting when director Alexander Payne came calling. Payne had considered Church for the role in About Schmidt that eventually went to Dermot Mulroney, but promised to cast him in a future film.
As Paul Giamatti's randy buddy Jack in Payne's 2004 triumph Sideways, Church experienced a career rebirth and earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. His growing popularity led to a Golden Globe nod and his first Emmy win for his supporting role in the miniseries Broken Trail.
