Stuart Rosenberg
A distinguished director of both television and film, Stuart Rosenberg was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 11, 1927, and launched his career helming the TV detective dramas "Decoy" (1957) and "Naked City" (1958-63) before making his feature debut with Murder, Inc. (1960).

Rosenberg went on to direct episodes for several popular TV series, including "The Untouchables" (1960-62) and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" (1959-61), and earned an Emmy Award for an episode of "The Defenders" (1963). But he is perhaps best known for his work on the big screen, directing Paul Newman in the prison yard classic Cool Hand Luke (1967).

Other notable Rosenberg films include The April Fools (1969), The Amityville Horror (1979) and Brubaker (1980). He died on March 15, 2007, at the age of 79, more than 15 years after directing his final film, My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys (1991).
