Born into an acting family in Savannah, Ga., on June 2, 1941, Stacy Keach studied at the Yale School of Drama and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art before amassing an impressive stage résumé, appearing in productions of "Long Day's Journey into Night," "Hamlet" and the circus musical "Barnum."But he is best known for his work on television, most notably as the hard-boiled Mickey Spillane gumshoe on "Mike Hammer" (1984-87), a role that spawned several television movies and a spinoff series, "Mike Hammer, Private Eye" (1997-98). Television work also landed the actor an Emmy nod for his portrayal of a famous writer in the miniseries Hemingway (1988), and he continued his small-screen success with recurring roles on "Titus" (2000-02) and on the hit Fox drama "Prison Break."
Keach's most notable films include The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter (1968) and American History X (1998).
