Born Cordozar Calvin Broadus in Long Beach, Calif., on October 10, 1971, former gang member Snoop Dogg began making his mark on the West Coast hip-hop music scene after graduating from high school.A longtime associate of fellow rap artists Dr. Dre and the ill-fated Tupac Shakur, Snoop made the inevitable jump to movies (mostly of the urban variety) with 1998's Half Baked. Alternating high-profile appearances in such major films as Training Day, Bones (both 2001) and Starsky & Hutch (2004, as Huggy Bear) with music videos and direct-to-video releases, Snoop also branched out into voice-over work and can be heard in Malibu's Most Wanted and Racing Stripes.
Adept at playing characters based on himself, as in the cable series "The L Word" and the 2004 spoof Soul Plane, Snoop abandoned his gangsta image to play a writer in 2006's The Tenants.
