Born in Pasadena, Calif., on Nov. 6, 1946, Sally Field began her career while she was still a teenager, starring in the popular TV series "Gidget" (1965). After a string of forgettable TV movies, Field won an Emmy for her work in the TV movie Sybil (1976).A year later, she starred with Burt Reynolds in her first hit movie, Smokey and the Bandit. But it wasn't until her 1979 titular role in Norma Rae that Field earned her first Best Actress Oscar and a reputation as an A-list player. Her second Oscar win came in 1984 for Places in the Heart.
Some of Field's greatest successes came with strong supporting parts in films such as Steel Magnolias (1989), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994). Field was bestowed Emmy recognition for her roles on TV in "A Woman of Independent Means," A Cooler Climate, "ER" and "Brothers & Sisters," in which she plays the family matriarch.
