But Vaughn struck gold of a different sort when he was cast as fashionable spy Napoleon Solo in the popular espionage series "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." (1964-68), a role that earned him a pair of Golden Globe nominations. He continued to work regularly in television and even ventured into disaster fare on the big screen with The Towering Inferno (1974) before joining the final-season cast of "The A-Team" (1986-87).
Vaughn has also charmed British audiences on the BBC series "Hustle" (2004), playing a veteran con artist who serves as a father figure to a group of young criminals.
