Born on March 10, 1953, in Ontario, Canada, Paul Haggis began his Hollywood career as a writer for numerous sitcoms, including "Diff'rent Strokes" and "One Day at a Time." He earned two Emmys and a Humanitas Prize for his work as a writer and supervising producer of "thirtysomething," then went on to create several short-lived but critically acclaimed television shows and to co-create the hit action-drama "Walker, Texas Ranger."Haggis made his feature film debut as a writer and director with 1996's Red Hot. In 2004, he received a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination for the Oscar-winning hit Million Dollar Baby.
The next year, he wrote and directed Crash, a complex and racially charged drama about the interlocking lives of several Los Angeles residents. The film received critical acclaim and numerous honors, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay Oscars.
