The daughter of veteran character actor Paul Sorvino, Mira was born January 28, 1967, in Tenafly, N.J. She earned a degree in East Asian studies from Harvard University and entered the film industry as an assistant director -- not as an actress.But the family bug eventually bit, and after a stint on the television soap "Guiding Light," Sorvino began making film appearances in the early 1990s, starting with Amongst Friends, Barcelona and Quiz Show.
Playing Linda Ash -- a hooker, porn star and aspiring actress -- in Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite (1995), Sorvino won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. She has since followed that early triumph with notable work in Beautiful Girls, Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, The Replacement Killers, Lulu on the Bridge, At First Sight, Summer of Sam, and Gods and Generals.
