The daughter of film director John Farrow and actress Maureen O'Sullivan, Maria "Mia" de Lourdes Villiers Farrow was born Feb. 9, 1945. After suffering from polio as a young child and spending a year in an iron lung, Farrow got her big break as a willowy teenager while acting off-Broadway, thanks in large part to the influence of family friend Vivien Leigh. She landed a plum role as a troubled teen on the prime-time drama "Peyton Place" and soon found herself starring in Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby (1968) and married to famed crooner Frank Sinatra, whom she later divorced.
But it was Farrow's longtime collaboration and romance with writer, director and actor Woody Allen for which she is most often remembered, starring in 13 of his films, among them: A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy (1982), Zelig (1983), The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) and Hannah and Her Sisters (1986).
