Matthew McConaughey
Matthew McConaugheyVoted Most Handsome in high school and designated People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive in 2005, Matthew McConaughey almost didn't land his breakthrough role in Dazed and Confused (1993) because director Richard Linklater thought him too handsome for the part.

Born Nov. 4, 1969, in Uvalde, Texas, McConaughey worked in Australia before studying film at the University of Texas, Austin. After his break in Dazed and Confused, McConaughey moved to Los Angeles, where he landed a number of supporting roles before making a big impression in two 1996 films: John Sayles's Lone Star (in which he plays deceased sheriff Buddy Deeds) and the John Grisham adaptation A Time to Kill (his first starring role).

Big parts in big movies followed, including Contact (with Jodie Foster), Steven Spielberg's Amistad, The Wedding Planner, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (with Kate Hudson) and Sahara.
