Canadian Martin Short was born March 26, 1950, in Hamilton, Ontario, and first attained notoriety on the SCTV Comedy Network. His talent for improvisation, dead-on impressions and gift for physical comedy won him a regular spot on "Saturday Night Live" in 1984.Short's growing fame soon led to plum roles in the parody Three Amigos (1986) and Innerspace (1987); his first starring turn came in Cross My Heart (1987). He delivered one of his funniest film performances as a florid wedding planner in the 1991 remake of Father of the Bride.
In 1994, Short returned to television, headlining the eponymous series "The Martin Short Show." The comic actor's later movie credits include Mars Attacks (1996), A Simple Wish (1997), Mumford (1999) and voice work in The Pebble and the Penguin (1995), The Prince of Egypt (1998) and Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius (2001).
