With vocal skills and dance steps to match those of her peers Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears -- but with an image far more wholesome -- Mandy Moore has become a hit in youth- and family-oriented films.Born April 10, 1984, in Nashua, N.H., Moore was raised in Orlando, Fla., and it was here that she saw the performance of "Oklahoma" that convinced her to pursue a career as a vocalist. Vocal lessons and local performances of the national anthem followed, and eventually Moore was "discovered" at one of her gigs, cutting her first album at age 14.
On the heels of that success, movie offers started coming in, and Moore has now made a name for herself as an actress as well, providing well-received performances in films such as 200l's The Princess Diaries (in which she played a mean cheerleader), A Walk to Remember (her first leading role), How to Deal, Saved! and Chasing Liberty.
