Her big break came with the TV miniseries "From Here to Eternity" (1979), followed shortly by an appearance as a Bond girl in Never Say Never Again (1983). It wasn't long before she earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for playing a femme fatale in L.A. Confidential (1997).
Basinger has continued taking more unconventional dramatic roles, playing Eminem's mother in 8 Mile (2002) and the troubled Marion in The Door in the Floor (2004).
