Born from puppeteer Jim Henson's fertile imagination, Kermit the Frog is recognized around the globe as the star of "Sesame Street," where he first appeared as a newshound interviewing nursery rhyme characters.After his successful run on the popular children's program, Kermit (voiced by Henson until his 1990 death and later voiced by Steve Whitmire) played the front man and stage manager on "The Muppet Show." He jumped to the big screen in 1979 with The Muppet Movie, followed by The Great Muppet Caper (1981), The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984), Muppet Treasure Island (1996) and Muppets from Space (1999).
The lovable amphibian has also made numerous guest appearances on television, sitting in for Johnny Carson in 1979 on "The Tonight Show" and hosting CNN's "Crossfire" in 2002 (on April Fools' Day).
