Although Preston has been acting since she was 18, appearing as a teen astronaut in SpaceCamp (1986) and as Arnold Schwarzenegger's girlfriend in Twins (1988), she's arguably more famous for her longtime marriage to fellow actor John Travolta. In 2000, she played opposite him as a long-tongued bombshell with alien blood in the Scientology-inspired, box-office flop Battlefield Earth.
Preston scored big, however, with her portrayal of Avery Bishop, Tom Cruise's self-absorbed girlfriend in Jerry Maguire (1996). She also stood out as an overextended mother in the silver-screen adaptation of Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat (2003).
