Jessica Tandy
Jessica TandyBorn June 7, 1909, in London, Jessica Tandy was at home on stage and screen on both sides of the Atlantic. She made her New York stage debut in 1930 and her film debut two years later in the British film The Indiscretions of Eve.

Tandy's Hollywood film career began with 1944's The Seventh Cross and continued with The Valley of Decision, Dragonwyck, Forever Amber, The Desert Fox and The Birds. She won a 1948 Tony Award as Blanche DuBois in the original 1948 Broadway production of "A Streetcar Named Desire" and another in 1978 for "The Gin Game" with husband Hume Cronyn. The couple also appeared on-screen in such films as Cocoon and Batteries Not Included.

Tandy capped her career with a Best Actress Oscar for the title role in Driving Miss Daisy (1989). She was nominated again for Fried Green Tomatoes; her final film was Nobody's Fool. Tandy died Sept. 11, 1994.
