Los Angeles native Jeff Bridges was born Dec. 4, 1949. After appearances on his father Lloyd's TV series "Sea Hunt," Bridges segued to the big screen for the first of many troubled-youth roles in Halls of Anger (1970).A year later, Bridges wowed critics in The Last Picture Show, netting his first Oscar nod (as Best Supporting Actor). He subsequently earned Academy Award nominations for Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974), Starman (1984) and The Contender (2000).
Bridges was a fixture in counterculture cinema but has also tackled drama (Fat City), fantasy (King Kong), sci-fi (Tron), romance (The Mirror Has Two Faces) and cult films (The Fisher King). He teamed with his dad for the 1988 biopic Tucker and with brother Beau in The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989). Bridges enjoyed a resurgence with 2003's Seabiscuit and garnered his first Golden Globe win and an Oscar nod as Best Actor for his turn in 2009's Crazy Heart.
