James Cameron
James CameronBorn in Canada on Aug. 16, 1954, James Cameron attended California State University in the early 1970s. An interest in filmmaking led to a job as an art director and special-effects supervisor for producer Roger Corman.

In 1981, Cameron got his first shot at directing with Piranha II: The Spawning; his next project, the low-budget sci-fi movie The Terminator (1984), launched his career as a writer-director. He followed with the groundbreaking films Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1989) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991).

Cameron earned an Oscar for directing the hugely successful -- and hugely budgeted -- Titanic in 1997 and stayed relatively quiet for several years. He later resurfaced as producer of the television series "Dark Angel" and as director of the IMAX documentary Ghosts of the Abyss (2003), in which he returned with a film crew to the Titanic's final resting place.
