Born April 7, 1969, in Santa Monica, Calif., Jack Black got his first big-screen role in the offbeat political satire Bob Roberts -- not surprisingly, since Black is quirky personified, a master at playing unique characters with tons of personality.\Black's list of credits is impressive, even if the roles weren't yet leads: Dead Man Walking, Cradle Will Rock, Jesus' Son. But it wasn't until he starred in Stephen Frears's pop classic High Fidelity that he finally caught the attention of the masses. Playing a know-it-all record store clerk with incomparable zeal and wit, Black, who also sings in a band, was a standout.\
Soon after, he snagged the lead opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in the somewhat controversial Shallow Hal, co-starred in Orange County and was nominated for a Golden Globe for his outstanding lead role in the hit comedy School of Rock.
