Heading to Tinseltown in 1934, she worked onscreen during the 1930s, '40s and '50s before moving behind the lens and becoming one of Hollywood's first successful female directors. After making her directing bow with Not Wanted (1949), which she cowrote, Lupino went on to helm six low-budget features: Never Fear (1949); Outrage (1950); Hard, Fast and Beautiful (1951); On Dangerous Ground (1952); The Hitch-Hiker (1953); and The Bigamist (1953).
