An actor, comedian and monologist who just happens to be a cross-dresser, Eddie Izzard is surely one of the most original characters to grace the stage and screen in recent years.Born July 2, 1962, in Aden, Yemen, Izzard grew up in Northern Ireland and Wales. When he was booted out of an English university, Izzard became a street performer, perfecting the off-kilter stream-of-consciousness style he would later incorporate into his popular one-man shows. Making his West End debut in 1993 with "Live," Izzard soon found himself starring in the David Mamet play "Cryptogram."
Film roles followed, including two in movies (The Avengers and Velvet Goldmine) that were released at the same time as his "Dressed to Kill" tour. Earning an Emmy for the HBO filmed special of the show, Izzard has continued to land plum roles in pictures such as Peter Bogdanovich's The Cat's Meow and Ocean's Twelve.
