Born November 29, 1932, in Meridan, Miss., Diane Ladd worked as a model and showgirl at the famed Copacabana Club. Critical acclaim for her stage work in a revival of Tennessee Williams's "Orpheus Descending" led to her film debut in 1961's Something Wild.Ladd played routine television and film roles during the '60s (including co-starring with then-husband Bruce Dern in The Wild Angels). She gained higher visibility in some important '70s films, especially Chinatown (as the fake Mrs. Mulwray) and Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (which earned her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination).
For 1991's Rambling Rose, both Ladd and daughter Laura Dern were nominated (an Oscar first); they teamed again in Citizen Ruth (1996). Ladd was also nominated for Wild at Heart (1990) and was memorable in Something Wicked This Way Comes, Primary Colors and many other films.
