Dennis Quaid
Dennis QuaidBorn April 9, 1954, in Houston, the son of an electrician, Dennis Quaid studied drama at the University of Houston. He dropped out to relocate to Hollywood, where his older brother, Randy, had already started an acting career.

A bit part in Crazy Mama (1975) led to Quaid's first major role in 1977's September 30, 1955. He gained widespread critical attention as a rebellious townie in the sleeper Breaking Away (1979), resulting in higher-profile roles.

As astronaut Gordon Cooper in The Right Stuff (1983), Quaid scored a career breakthrough and bankable leading-man status. Dreamscape, The Big Easy (a cult favorite), Innerspace, Everybody's All-American, Great Balls of Fire! (as Jerry Lee Lewis), Wyatt Earp (as Doc Holliday), Dragonheart and The Alamo (2004, as Sam Houston) followed. Also a singer, golfer and pilot, Quaid earned a Golden Globe nomination for Far from Heaven (2002).
