Born Oct. 11, 1953, in Beverly, Mass., David Morse spent the bulk of the 1970s on the Boston stage, performing in more than 30 productions with the Boston Repertory Company. In 1980, the 6-foot-4-inch actor made his film debut opposite John Savage in the Richard Donner drama Inside Moves. But his big break came in 1982 with the role of Dr. Jack "Boomer" Morrison in the NBC medical drama "St. Elsewhere."By the late 1990s, Morse was landing bigger supporting roles such as Jodie Foster's father in Contact, the kidnapped husband in Proof of Life and a prison guard in The Green Mile. His other movies include The Rock, Dancer in the Dark, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Disturbia.
For the 2002 film Double Vision, Morse became the first English-speaking actor to ever be nominated for a Golden Horse, the Chinese equivalent of the Oscars. In 2006, he delivered a critically acclaimed guest turn on "House, M.D.," and in 2008 earned an Emmy nod for his portrayal of George Washington in the "John Adams" miniseries.
