Actor, director and producer Danny DeVito was born November 17, 1944, in Neptune, N.J. A graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, he worked briefly as a hairdresser. After making his film debut in the obscure Dreams of Glass (1970), DeVito first gained wide attention as Martini in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), the first of several teamings with Jack Nicholson.DeVito had a popular run as Louie De Palma on the TV sitcom "Taxi" and lent irreplaceable presence to Romancing the Stone, Ruthless People, Twins, Batman Returns (as The Penguin), L.A. Confidential, Big Fish and more.
Throw Momma from the Train (1987) marked DeVito's directing debut; he went on to helm The War of the Roses, Hoffa, Matilda and Death to Smoochy. As a producer, he was responsible for Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty, Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich, Be Cool and others.
