Claire Catherine Danes was born April 12, 1979, in New York City to a painter mother and photographer father. After spending sixth and seventh grade at a performing arts school and successfully auditioning for a role in Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List (which she turned down), she was cast in the much-loved and little-seen TV series "My So-Called Life."In the show's brief two-year run, Danes became known as a highly skilled actress, making the difficult transition from precocious child actor to magnetic and commanding leading lady. She's managed her subsequent film career with the thoughtful determination of a professional who intends to be more than just Hollywood's soon-forgotten next big thing.
Danes has shown a range from romantic comedy to gritty drama, starring in such films as Little Women, Romeo + Juliet, U Turn, Igby Goes Down, The Hours, Terminator 3 and more.
