Born in Birmingham, Mich., on April 4, 1949, Christine Lahti paid the bills doing commercials in New York until a breakthrough stage role in David Mamet's "The Woods" (1978) launched her into film, starring opposite Al Pacino in "... And Justice for All" (1979).An Oscar-nominated role in Swing Shift (1984) and a Golden Globe-nominated performance in Running on Empty (1988) followed, and the actress went on to collect an Emmy nod for Amerika (1987), a Golden Globe Award for No Place Like Home (1989) and a Cable ACE Award for Crazy from the Heart (1991).
Lahti even picked up an Oscar for Lieberman in Love (1995), a short film she both directed and starred in, before playing a doctor on "Chicago Hope" (1995-98) and claiming four consecutive Emmys and a Golden Globe for that role. She went on to direct her first feature, My First Mister (2001), before joining the cast of "Jack & Bobby" (2004).
