The daughter of a prominent architect, diminutive actress Carol Kane was born June 18, 1952, in Cleveland. She started on the stage at age 14 and made her film debut in 1970's Blood of the Iron Maiden. Kane left a lasting impression in small roles in films of the early '70s, such as Carnal Knowledge, Desperate Characters, The Last Detail and Dog Day Afternoon.For her portrayal of a young Jewish immigrant in turn-of-the-century New York in Hester Street (1975), she was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar. This resulted in meatier roles for Kane in The World's Greatest Lover, Harry and Walter Go to New York, Annie Hall and When a Stranger Calls. She also made her mark on TV audiences with a recurring role on the hit sitcom "Taxi" as Andy Kaufman's European girlfriend.
Kane's later work includes Scrooged, The Princess Bride, Addams Family Values and Office Killer (1997).
