Born on Nov. 12, 1982, in Brooklyn, the doe-eyed Anne Hathaway began acting as a child, making history as the first teen to be accepted into The Barrow Group acting school.She first appeared on-camera in the short-lived TV drama "Get Real" (1999-2000) and landed her first film role in The Other Side of Heaven (2002), which was released after her turn as a teen who discovers she's royalty in Garry Marshall's The Princess Diaries (2001). Hathaway reprised the role for The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004) and kept her tiara in place for Ella Enchanted (2004).
But it was her breakthrough performance as the wife of a closeted cowboy in Brokeback Mountain (2005) that proved the young actress capable of tackling adult fare. Other work has found her fabulously dressed in the 2006 movie adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada and earning her first Oscar nod for Rachel Getting Married.
