Born April 3, 1958, in Long Island, N.Y., Alec Baldwin was the second of six children and is the most prominent of the four brothers who pursued acting. Originally intending to practice law, Baldwin studied political science at George Washington University before deciding that acting was his passion. His degree in drama from NYU marked the beginning of an incredibly successful career in both theater and film. Baldwin's notable roles in The Hunt for Red October, Outside Providence and The Cooler show both his range as an actor and his willingness to take risks across the spectrum, from big-budget leads to smaller character roles.
Armed with talent and charisma, Baldwin maintains a sense of self-deprecating humor, as seen in his frequent guest appearances on "Saturday Night Live" and his Golden Globe- and Emmy-winning role as a TV network exec in "30 Rock."
