Born in Cupertino, Calif., on March 12, 1968, Aaron Eckhart grew up partially in England and dropped out of high school to kick around Australia before enrolling at Brigham Young University, where he met friend and future collaborator Neil LaBute.Writer-director LaBute gave Eckhart his first high-profile exposure with In the Company of Men (1997). Displaying a knack for pulling off astonishing physical transformations, Eckhart next put on weight to play an impotent husband in LaBute's Your Friends & Neighbors (1998); donned a ponytail and beard to play a biker in Erin Brockovich (2000); and applied a layer of slime to play a used-car salesman in Nurse Betty (2000).
More traditional parts followed -- at least in terms of appearance -- in The Pledge (2001), the LaBute drama Possession (2002), The Missing (2003), Suspect Zero (2004) and the tongue-in-cheek Thank You for Smoking (2005).
