In 1991, Beckinsale entered Oxford University, the same year she made her acting debut in the TV movie One Against the Wind. While continuing her studies, she got an even bigger break when she was cast in Much Ado About Nothing (1993). With acting offers flooding in, she left college in 1994 to devote herself to her craft.
Roles in telefilms and big-screen movies followed, including Cold Comfort Farm (1995), Emma (1996), Brokedown Palace (1999) and Pearl Harbor (2001), which catapulted Beckinsale to international stardom. Big-budget Hollywood films have continued to beckon, among them Underworld (2003), Van Helsing (2004) and The Aviator (2004).
