Born in New York City on April 9, 1966, Cynthia Nixon began her acting career at age 12 and made Broadway history in 1984 by appearing in two hit shows simultaneously -- "The Real Thing" and "Hurlyburly" -- all while she was still a college freshman.Big-screen exposure followed in Amadeus (1984) and The Manhattan Project (1986), and Nixon continued her work onstage, earning a Tony nod for "Indiscretions" in 1996. But it was her breakthrough role as workaholic lawyer Miranda Hobbes on the HBO smash "Sex and the City" (1998-2004) that has garnered the actress her most widespread acclaim as well as an Emmy Award and two nominations.
In the wake of the show's success, Nixon earned another Emmy nod for her portrayal of Eleanor Roosevelt in the made-for-TV movie Warm Springs (2005) and nabbed a Tony the following year for "Rabbit Hole."
