Paul Bowles, the talented writer who penned The Sheltering Sky, among other books, is the fascinating subject of this 1999 Emmy Award-winner for Best Arts Documentary. Using interviews with Bowles as well as his fans and critics, historical footage (including his last rendezvous with fellow scribes Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs) and Bowles's texts, filmmakers attempt to pierce the mysterious exterior of this literary genius.
