Tennis player Peter Cort's (Paul Bettany) career is on the wane until a lucky wild-card entry into the most prestigious tournament of all, Wimbledon, may afford him his last hurrah. Then love finds him off-court when he falls for American athlete Lizzie Bradbury (Kirsten Dunst). Peter finds that having Lizzie in his life brings a renewed spark to his career. But Lizzie's coach, her father (Sam Neill), disapproves of the relationship.
