An evening in the lives of two dysfunctional married couples drives the action in this satirical film. The marriage of Vermont psychiatrists Rita (Julie Hagerty) and Jack (Tom Noonan) is on the verge of crumbling, and their plans for an intimate dinner to patch things up are interrupted when a patient (Wallace Shawn) and his flighty wife (Karen Young) arrive. As the evening unfolds, the four reveal secrets about themselves and their marriages.
