A traveling carnival's wax museum inspires a writer (William Dieterle) to spin tales of evil. Jack the Ripper (Werner Krauss), Ivan the Terrible (Conrad Veidt) and Harun al Raschid (Emil Jannings) murder and terrorize in three segments, each with its own twist on the original true story. Filmmaker Paul Leni directed and designed the stylized production of this masterpiece of German Expressionist cinema.
