Viola (Frances Barber) is shipwrecked in a strange land; believing that her brother has drowned in the wreck, she takes his clothes and identity and goes to work for lovelorn Duke Orsino (Christopher Ravenscourt). Orsino loves Olivia (Caroline Langrishe), Viola loves the Duke and Olivia falls for the cross-dressing Viola. It's unrequited love and drunken mischief in Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Shakespeare's gender-bending comedy.
