Construction foreman Hannes Balla (Manfred Krug) falls for pretty engineer Kati Klee (Krystyna Stypulkowska), who returns his affection but also takes a shine to an ambitious new party secretary (Eberhard Esche) with an eye toward efficiency -- and cutting Balla down to size. Applauded for its insightful depiction of the communist system, this 1966 East German import was promptly banned and not seen in German theaters again until 1990.
