Toyo's Camera
(2009)|
This moving documentary brings to light the daring work of Japanese-American photographer Tôyô Miyatake, who used a makeshift camera to chronicle daily life inside California's Manzanar internment camp, where he was detained during World War II. Images of camp life, interspersed with recollections from inmates, reveal a fascinating glimpse into the ways Miyatake and other ordinary citizens carried on in the face of stark injustice.
