In her first major non-Disney acting role, Hayley Mills plays a lonely 10-year-old girl named Gillie, who witnesses a murder in the town of Tiger Bay and is abducted by the killer, Polish sailor Bronislav Korchinski (Horst Buchholtz). Gillie manages to take her captor's gun and escape, but she lies to her police-detective father (Hayley's real-life father, John Mills) about how she acquired the gun, which gets her in deeper trouble.
