Disheartened by the attack on Pearl Harbor and a string of defeats, America badly needs a victory in the early days of World War II. To the rescue comes Air Force Col. Jimmy Doolittle (Spencer Tracy), who devises a daring plan for a bombing raid on the Japanese capital. Van Johnson co-stars as a dedicated flyboy, and Phyllis Thaxter plays his loyal wife in director Mervyn LeRoy's soaring adventure, which won an Oscar for Best Special Effects.
