The Way of All Flesh
(1927)|
A single sexual transgression and a case of mistaken identity give rise to a lifetime of heartache for husband, father and bank cashier August Schilling (Emil Jannings, in an Oscar-winning turn). Rolled by a two-bit vamp (Phyllis Haver), Schilling goes looking for her, only to be attacked by a thief. When the mugger is killed in their struggle and misidentified as Schilling, the banker opts to live in anonymity rather than disgrace his family.
