Sisters Yvette (Joanna Shimkus) and Lucille (Harriet Harper) have led sheltered lives, schooled in the provinces and now home at the rectory with their widower father. It's not surprising, then, that when Yvette catches sight of a handsome gypsy (Franco Nero), she falls hard -- and her family objects. Despite the disapproval of family and townsfolk, young Yvette pursues the forbidden fruit. Finally, fate intervenes.
