After fighting on opposite sides of the Civil War, Mac Traven (Tom Selleck) and his brother, Dal (Sam Elliott), arrive home at the end of the conflict to discover that a band of outlaws has kidnapped their siblings and Dal's feisty sweetheart (Katharine Ross). With help from their uncle (Western stalwart Ben Johnson), whom they break out of jail, Mac and Dal track the rebel guerillas to Mexico in this film adaptation of a Louis L'Amour novel.
